Dr Tony Holohan, Chief Medical Officer at the Department of Health, will lead the Clinical Leaders’ Forum at the largest hospitals symposium in the country, the National Healthcare Conference, which takes place in Dublin’s Convention Centre on April 1 and 2.

Under an overall theme of ‘Partnership and Innovation: Reforming Healthcare’, the Conference will address the topic ‘What is the future for clinical leaders under the trust model?’ in a forum chaired by Dr Pat Nash, Group Clinical Director, West North-West Hospitals Group.

An impressive line-up of clinical leaders has been put forward to address the forum, including: Prof John Higgins, Head of the College of Medicine, University College Cork (UCC); Dr Colm Henry, National Lead, Clinical Director Programme; Dr Aíne Carroll, National Director of Clinical Strategy and Programmes, HSE; and Prof Alf Nicholson, National Clinical Lead in Paediatrics, RCPI.

The clinical forum will also include an interactive panel discussion on the implications of universal health insurance for clinical leadership. The conference will also feature a CEO forum held under the theme ‘Opportunities for Collaboration between Public and Private’, which will be attended by CEOs of various healthcare organisations and companies, and a technology forum that will see presentations from up-and-coming healthcare technology companies. There will also be an alcohol forum, under the theme ‘Alcohol and Harm’, as part of Alcohol Awareness Week.

Other keynote speakers lined-up include: Dr Ambrose McLoughlin, Secretary General, Department of Health; Tony O’Brien, Director General, HSE; Eilish Hardiman, CEO, Children’s Hospital Group; and Bill Maher, CEO, West North West Hospital Group.

Ian Carter, National Director for Acute Hospitals, HSE, and Dr Michael Byrne, Head of the Student Health Department, UCC — which won the overall prize at this year’s Irish Healthcare Awards for its Alcohol Action Plan — will also speak at the event.
